9. General Dog Training Conditions
Dogs must be kept on lead at all times, unless told otherwise by the instructor
Keep your distance - your dog may be friendly and relaxed around other people and dogs but not all of them are.
You must not bring your dog if he/she is unwell or has a contagious disease
Do not to drop treats on the ground as it creates a distraction and may be harmful to other dogs
Bitches in season will generally not be permitted to attend classes and you will not be liable for a refund if you are unable to attend as a result of this term. Please do get in touch with your trainer if you would like to bring your bitch in season and we will assess it on a case by case situation
Only reward based training methods are to be used during training
Before entering the training area, you must ensure all other dogs are under control and not within 5 meters of the gate
Unless expressly agreed in writing before the session, only dogs who are friendly to other dogs and people are to attend training sessions.
10. Children in Classes
Although we encourage the whole family to get involved in their dog's training, we ask that children under the age of 6 do not attend group classes. Children in attendance must be supervised at all times and be kept away from other dogs within the class. Children in attendance must not be allowed to disrupt the class and may be asked to leave if they become disruptive. Some dogs may be nervous around children, scared of them running around or making loud noises so please respect the other attendees within the class.
All children under 18 are the sole responsibility of the adult who books the course and must remain on site to supervise throughout the session. Under no circumstances should children under 10 years of age be in full control of any dog whilst on the premises, although they are welcome to train alongside a parent or guardian at your own risk.
11. Photography, Recordings and Social Media
Photographs and/or recordings may be taken by The Company during training classes or one to one sessions for educational and promotional purposes. When booking, you are deemed to have agreed that this may happen unless you expressly advise us otherwise. No other photographs and/or recordings may be taken without prior permission from Cleaver Dog Training.
All agility attendees will be added to a WhatsApp group for your training day, where videos are shared as well as general communication. Improvers Agility attendees will also be added to a general agility clients WhatsApp group for all agility clients, where you can swap sessions between each other if appropriate as well as communicating any general messages such as training holiday dates etc
12. Equipment and Clothing
Please make sure you wear suitable clothing and shoes - training may be held in our training hall, training paddock, or in other agreed locations.
Dogs should at all times wear a well fitting harness or flat collar, as well as a fixed length lead, unless instructed to remove it by your trainer.
Handlers should have suitable rewards for their session which is usually food rewards in a treat pouch. We strongly discourage having treats in a plastic bag in your pocket as these are not easily accessible and can be easily swallowed if accidentally dropped. Toys may also be appropriate so it is recommended that you bring your own.
13. Vaccinations
Cleaver Dog Training recommends that all dogs and puppies are fully vaccinated or titre tested, as recommended by your veterinary surgeon. If you chose to bring your dog to classes unvaccinated, this is entirely at your own risk and you will be fully responsible for any issues arising as a result of non-vaccination.
14. Suitability of Dogs for General Group Training
Some dogs may not be suitable for a class environment, these include dogs that bark and lunge at other dogs who are too anxious to eat during class or are generally disruptive to the class. Although we will try to accommodate the needs of all dogs in attendance with the use of distance, barriers and separate areas, there may be occasions where you are asked to leave and book 1:1 sessions in order to rectify your dog's issues, which will be at extra cost.
15. Requirements for Agility Training
You and your dog need to be reasonably fit (if in doubt please check with your doctor/vet); dogs must be at least 12 months old (seek vet's advice on suitability for their age and breed); and dogs must be sociable around other dogs and handlers and have a reasonable recall.
16. Beginners Agility Course Format
Beginners agility courses are held as four 1.5 hour sessions and attendees are expected to attend all 4 sessions so that the group can progress through the course together.
17. Improvers Agility Course Format
Upon completion of a suitable beginners course (with Cleaver Dog Training or elsewhere), you will reserve a space on a specific session and will pay via standing order at the current monthly cost, with a pro rata payment for the first month if applicable. We aim to hold these sessions at least 48 weeks per year and if we are unable to do this, then your payment will be adjusted accordingly.
When you have reached a required ability, it is usually possible to swap sessions between yourselves, via the WhatsApp group for agility clients, but your trainer must be in agreement that the swap is suitable.
18. Group Classes
All group class sessions must be taken as booked which is normally consecutive weeks (subject to booked holidays for the trainer as stated on the course calendar), although any changes to this, will be specified on the specific course you are attending. If you are unable to attend your usual session, please get in touch and if there is a suitable alternative, we will do our best to accommodate you but this is not guaranteed or even possible for all courses.
We will endeavour to provide classes at the specified time, but please be prepared to be flexible as it may be necessary to start your session slightly later than the scheduled time.
During the summer months, we will liaise with clients if temperatures look unsuitable for training and endeavour to amend the time to a more suitable time.
19. Travel Charges
Training is generally undertaken at our training centre in Old Amersham. Initial consultations may be held at your own home within 5 miles of our training centre and this is included in the cost. If ongoing training support is required at alternative locations or the initial consultation is more than 5 miles from our training centre, an additional charge of 45p per mile will be charged for both journeys to and from the appointment.
20. Weather Restrictions
When temperatures fall below 3 or above 25 degrees, all training will take place in the training hall (where there is air conditioning and fans available) and not in the training paddock. Training will also take place indoors if it is excessively wet (both rain and ground water) or windy. If the temperature is over 35 degrees or below -5 degrees, or if there is over 5cm of snow on the ground all training will be cancelled.
21. Transfer and Refunds
All bookings are non-transferrable.
You are able to cancel bookings for group classes and receive a refund up to 14 days BEFORE your first class starts. If you wish to cancel within 14 days of the first class, we will attempt to resell your space and if successful, you will be refunded the price paid, less £20 administration fee. We are unable to make refunds once your course starts. This does not affect your consumer rights.
